Definition

  • This term represents the macroscopic completeness of the surgical mesorectum excision in patients undergoing surgery for rectal cancer. Complete excision, known as total mesorectal excision or TME, is associated with decreased risk of local recurrence and increased rate of 5-year survival. [PMID: 27697315]
