Definition

  • The Quad screen, perfomed at 16-18 weeks' gestation (second trimester) is used to assess fetal risk of Trisomy 21 (Down's syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edward's syndrome) and Open Neural Tube defects. It has 81% sensitivity for Down syndrome detection and a false-positive rate of 7%.
