First trimester maternal screen with nuchal translucency panel

Definition

  • First trimester screening test is performed between 11-13 weeks of gestation to screen for pregnancies with increased risks for Down Syndrome or trisomy 18. Three marker levels and maternal age are used in the calculation of such risks. Two of thee markers are biochemical (PAPP-A and HCG total) and the third is an ultrasound measurement of the fetal nuchal translucency (NT).
