Definition

  • Cladosporium, also known as Hormodendrum, is a common fungus associated with plants, wood products, and leather goods. Cladosporium appears gray to black or very dark green and may have a powdery appearance. The Cladosporium genus includes over 30 species. It is the most commonly identified outdoor fungus and is a common mold allergen. The tiny spores of these molds become airborne and may cause allergy symptoms to flare up when inhaled by a person with sensitivity to mold allergens. Cladosporium are a common cause of extrinsic asthma.
