Definition

  • These self-administered questions ask current and former smokers about their intention to quit smoking, details of past attempts to quit, and whether a health care professional advised the respondent to quit smoking. These questions are only asked of current or former smokers. In order to exclude nonsmokers, the Cancer Working Group recommends adding a filter question. The recommended filter question can be located in the PhenX Toolkit. Please see question 1 of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Substances measure Tobacco - Smoking Status (Adult Protocol).
