Definition

  • I would like to ask you about the first time you became ill with a psychiatric problem. Age of onset is defined as the earliest age at which psychiatric treatment was sought OR when symptoms began to cause subjective distress or impair functioning, whichever occurs first. If denies illness, use all available sources (e.g., hospital records, family informants).
