Definition

  • This analyte is measured using the non-derivatized tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) method and is not measured when using the derivatized reagents. When using the derivatized reagents, it will instead be measured as two separate analytes C4-DC [LOINC: 45222-7] and C5-OH [LOINC: 50106-4]. A different LOINC code is used for the derivatized or non-derivatized method because based on the reagents used in processing, different sets of analytes become isobaric, which means that they cannot be distinguished on the MS/MS because they have the same molecular weight after reagent processing.
