Definition

  • Erythrocyte (Red blood cell, RBC) enzyme assay panel is performed when an enzyme defect is suspected and/or other clinical tests for anemia are normal. The most common RBC enzyme defects are glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency and pyruvate kinase (PK) deficiency, although several other enzyme defects have been described.
