Staphylococcus aureus methicillin resistance SCCmec [Presence] in Nose by NAA with probe detection
SCCmec Nose Ql NAA+probe
Definition
- Detection of nucleic acid sequences specific to staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec), a genomic island found in methicillin-resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This term was created for, but not limited in use to, Cepheid's Xpert MRSA/SA Nasal assay, a qualitative real-time PCR test that detects Staphylococcus aureus (SA) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) DNA from nasal swabs in patients at risk for nasal colonization. Primers and probes are used to detect sequences of the staphylococcal protein A (spa), the gene for methicillin/oxacillin resistance (mecA), and the staphylococcal cassette chromosome (SCCmec) inserted into the Staphylococcus aureus chromosomal attB site.
