Definition

  • Drug testing on meconium specimens may be performed to detect maternal drug use during pregnancy. Results depend on the amount and quality of the specimen as well as the pattern and frequency of drug(s) used by mother. Positive results have concentration values that are greater than or equal to a cutoff value. Drug abuse during pregnancy is associated with significant perinatal complications.
