Definition

  • Enterococcus species, including E. faecalis and/or other enterococcus species (not differentiated), can be identified on smears from positive blood cultures by qualitative, multicolor nucleic acid hybridization assays targeting specific ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequences. This code is based on, but not limited in use to, a submission for AdvanDx's Enterococcus QuickFISH BC assay. The test is done on blood cultures that have positive growth of an organism, not directly from a blood sample.
