Definition
- A 3-digit identifier (e.g. 2-5-2) is assigned to Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) based on the RFLP pattern of isolated RNA from the ORF5 gene. ORF5 gene is the most variable and therefore best for strain identification. It is NOT to identify anything particular about the ORF5 distinct from the rest of the virus.
