Cholestanol/Cholesterol in Serum or Plasma

Cholestanol/Cholest SFr SerPl

Definition

  • The ratio of cholestanol to cholesterol in serum or plasma is calculated from individual analytes. Cholesterol absorption efficiency and synthesis can be predicted by the ratio of non-cholesterol sterols, including cholestanol, to cholesterol. High cholestanol to cholesterol ratio indicates high cholesterol absorption efficiency and low cholesterol synthesis. [PMID: 12235179]
