Definition

  • This test measures the leucine level in children who have been diagnosed with maple syrup urine disease and are on a therapeutic diet for their condition. Dried blood spot specimens are sent to the lab for monitoring tests periodically. Depending on the lab, the leucine level may be used in combination with alloisoleucine, isoleucine, hydroxyproline and/or valine levels to monitor the patient's progress.
