Definition

  • The patient or client's total amount of energy from caloric intake from all sources, (such as food, beverages, supplements, and via enteral and parenteral routes) for a 24 hour period. This is a study where the subject's actual calorie intake is measured. Caloric intake can be reported in kilogram calorie or kilojoule units. The conversion factor is (1 kilojoule (kJ) = 0.239 kilogram calorie (kcal). This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the HL7 Implementation Guide for CDA Release 2: Consolidated CDA Templates for Clinical Notes (US Realm) Draft Standard for Trial Use Release 2.1.
