Bacteria identified in Isolate by MS.MALDI-TOF
Bacteria Islt MS.MALDI-TOF
Definition
- Bacterial identification by MALDI-TOF (matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight) is a diagnostic test for identifying the specific organism(s) responsible for a bacterial infection. MALDI-TOF is a form of mass spectrometry that analyzes the proteins contained in an isolated bacterial colony. The resulting mass spectrum is compared to a reference database of bacterial protein mass spectra in order to identify the organism(s) present in the test sample. This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the Bruker Daltonics MALDI Biotyper CA System, which is indicated for use in diagnosing Gram-negative bacterial infections.
