Phosphatidylcholine.saturated [Moles/volume] in Amniotic fluid
PC Satd Amn-sCnc
Definition
- An increased concentration of amniotic fluid saturated phosphatidylcholine (SPC), which is the major component of pulmonary surfactant, correlates with fetal lung maturity and is used to predict fetal respiratory distress syndrome. SPC may be a more specific and sensitive predictor than the lecithin/sphingomyelin ratio. [N Engl J Med 301:1013-1018, 1979]
