Definition

  • Determination of caloric or energy content in 24h stool to assess nutrition. The submitter's lab performs this test on ICU patients with loose stools to assess loss of energy in the stools due to malabsorption. Based on one study, malabsorption is defined as an absorption capacity of 85% or less.[PMID:16698144]
