Definition
- This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the AdvanDx mecA XpressFISH® assay, which is intended for the detection of mecA mRNA on smears from blood cultures found to be solely positive for Staphylococcus aureus by the Staphylococcus QuickFISH BC assay. Detection of mecA mRNA implies the presence of methicillin-resistant Staph aureus (MRSA), and absence of mecA mRNA implies the presence of methicillin-susceptible Staph aureus (MSSA).
