Definition

  • The interpretation for RT-PCR detection of full length and truncated gene variants of the erm(41) gene unique to Mycobacterium abscessus complex (M. abscessus, M. massiliense, and M. bolletii) from clinical isolates. The presence of a full length functional erm(41)gene confers inducible resistance to clarithromycin while the non-functional truncated erm(41) gene exhibits higher drug susceptibility.[PMID: 22290346]
