Definition

  • Carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriacae (CRE) screening may be performed using a rectal swab plated onto a culture medium containing high concentrations of a carbapenem. Any bacterial growth will be identified and full susceptibility performed. Testing can be performed on peri-anal swabs, stool specimen swabs, or stool specimens as well.
