9-Hydroxyrisperidone [Mass/mass] in Hair

9OH-risperidone Hair-mCnt

Definition

  • In general hair analysis provides a longer surveillance window for drug use than other methods because hair retains drugs longer (weeks or months, compared with days detectable in blood or urine). Collecting hair specimens is also less invasive than urine or blood sampling and provides a simple and fast method for detection and quantification of Risperidone (RSP) and its major metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone (9-OH-RSP). One study suggests a better relationship between the administered dose and hair concentration for 9-OH-RSP, than for the parent drug. [PMID: 19595645] Drawbacks for hair analysis include expense, and environmental contamination of the specimen.
