This assay detects the presence of HIV 1 RNA and HIV 1 proviral DNA but does not distinguish between the two. If either the RNA or proviral DNA is detected, the reported result is "Detected." This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the Abbott Realtime HIV-1 Qualitative assay.
