Definition

  • The analysis of pterins, including neopterin, biopterin, xanthopterin, primapterin, sepiapterin and pterin, in urine. This test is performed to diagnose pediatric neurotransmitter diseases caused by defects in the pterin biosynthetic pathway and to differentiate atypical phenylketonuria (PKU) from the classical PKU disease.
