Definition
- A manually assigned ICD code for the underlying cause of death, determined according to WHO rules for encoding underlying cause of death. Manual code assignment is performed when the computer generated process [LOINC: 80358-5] fails to select a code. This term was created for the CDC HL7 Version 2.6 Implementation Guide: Reporting Death Information from the EHR to Vital Records, R1.2.
