Definition
- The clinically relevant species, Trichomonas vaginalis, causes a sexually transmitted disease that is more commonly symptomatic in females. Infection with T. vaginalis can increase susceptibility to HIV infection. For this testing, only T vaginalis is reported. If other species of Trichomonas are cultured, the culture is reported as Trichomonas vaginalis not present.
