Definition

  • This panel contains terms that capture the type and amount of essential amino acid intake from all sources including food, beverages, and supplements, and via enteral and parenteral routes. Essential amino acids cannot be made by the body and they must come from food. The 9 essential amino acids are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Nutrition Assessment Language.
