Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Adverse Childhood Experience Module 2009-2020 [ACE.BRFSS]

Definition

  • The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) questionnaire surveys a person's exposure to child abuse and neglect and household challenges prior to age 18. The Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) initiative that collects data from U.S. adults using random telephone surveys. The BRFSS began using an adapted version of the original CDC-Kaiser ACE module in 2009, which adaptation is not copyrighted and is available free of charge from the CDC [http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/acestudy/ace_brfss.html]. The CDC definitions of the ACEs derived from the Kaiser-CDC study are also represented in LOINC [LOINC:82813-7].
