Total score [BSDS]
Definition
- The Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale (BSDS) was designed to identify the milder variants of bipolar disorder, such as bipolar II and bipolar not otherwise specified (NOS). The patient-reported assessment consists of two parts: 1) a paragraph describing 19 symptoms of bipolar disorder in which the subject puts a check mark next to the sentences that describes them; and 2) a multiple choice question that asks the subject to indicate how well the paragraph describes them overall. Total score for the BSDS can range from 0 to 25; a score above 13 indicates a "moderate probability" of bipolar disorder and is considered a positive screen for bipolar disorder. [PMID:15708426]
