Definition

  • The result for whether or not the circumferential resection margin (CRM) on the non-peritonealized surface of the resected specimen is involved. CRM involvement (1mm or less distance between tumor and CRM) is an important predictor of local recurrence in rectal carcinoma.[PMID: 16328130] This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Colorectal Cancer Structured Reporting Protocol (2nd Edition, 2012) developed by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
