This panel contains qualitative results for targeted nucleic acid sequences within Bordetella pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. holmesii DNA extracted from clinical specimens or culture isolates. This term is based on, but not limited in use to, the submitter's multi-target real-time PCR assay targeting multicopy insertion sequences (IS481, pIS1001, hIS1001) in combination with the pertussis toxin subunit S1 (ptxS1) gene for the identification of B. pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. holmesii. The presence of IS481 and ptxS1 indicates B. pertussis, pIS1001 and ptxS1 indicates B. parapertussis, IS481 and hIS1001 indicates holmesii.[PMID: 21940464]
