Definition

The quantitative (Ct) value of a targeted sequence in ptxS1, the S1 subunit of the pertussis toxin gene, which is present in a single copy in B. pertussis and B. parapertussis genomes. This test detects but does not distinguish between B. pertussis and B. parapertussis. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network's (ARLN) multiplex (IS481/pIS1001/hIS1001) and singleplex (ptxS1) real-time PCR assays for the detection and identification of Bordetella pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. holmesii in clinical specimens or culture isolates.
