Definition

  • This panel contains qualitative results for neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies and quantitative results for saccharomyces cerevisiae IgA and IgG antibodies in serum to help distinguish two forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Patients with UC have been shown to have measurable neutrophil specific antibodies whereas patients with CD often have antibodies directed against Saccharomyces cerevisiae IgA and/or IgG isotypes.[PMID: 11515844]
