Staphylococcus species methicillin resistant identified in Isolate or Specimen by Molecular genetics method

Staph methicillin resist Islt/Spm

Definition

  • The detection of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus species (MRSA), MSSA (methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus) and/or CoNS (Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus) in isolates or clinical specimens, such as nasal/throat, wound, groin and perineum swabs. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Bosch Vivalytic MRSA assay, a multiplex real-time PCR used for the detection MRSA/SA infections in healthcare settings. This MRSA assay is based on qualitative detection of nucleic acids targets in the SCCmec/orfX junction, mecA & mecC genes, and S. aureus-specific gene targets, such as SA442 or spa genes.
