Definition
- Borrelia infections require adaptation to different hosts and environments. Borrelia species ensure their survival in these varied conditions by regulating the expression of five oligopeptide permease (Opp) substrate binding proteins, OppA1-OppA5. Each protein is independently regulated, and performs a unique adaptive function in the host environments. [PMID: 17237172]
