ASA morbidity state

Definition

  • The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical health classification system grades a patient's overall health before surgery, to determine anesthetic risk. ASA classifications are, ASA I: healthy patient, ASA II: mild systemic disease, ASA III: severe, though not incapacitating, systemic disease, ASA IV: incapacitating, life threatening disease, and ASA V: moribund.
